Building a Regional Technology Centre for a Global Bank
Client Context
A leading global bank sought to establish a regional technology centre in the UK to strengthen its technology capability while contributing to local economic development. The ambition was to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled technologists drawn directly from the surrounding community.
The Challenge
The bank needed to source over 150 individuals without university degrees, all from within a 20-mile radius of the new centre. These individuals would require training in client-specific technologies and continued support to ensure long-term success in demanding technology roles. The challenge was not only to attract and prepare talent at scale, but also to integrate them into the organisation’s culture and operations.

Our Approach
Digital Futures partnered with the bank to design and deliver the programme end-to-end:
- Talent Attraction: Sourced candidates from the local community, widening access to individuals who might otherwise be excluded from technology careers.
- Specialist Training: Delivered structured programmes tailored to the bank’s technology stack and operational requirements.
- Ongoing Development: Provided mentoring, coaching, and continuous learning to ensure sustained career growth and integration into client teams.
- Regional Engagement: Positioned the technology centre as an anchor for local employment, skills development, and social mobility.
The Impact
The initiative created meaningful impact across multiple dimensions:
- More than 150 individuals were hired and trained, building a new pool of technologists for the bank.
- The regional centre became fully operational, with teams capable of supporting core technology functions.
- The programme enhanced diversity and inclusion by opening high-value career opportunities to those without traditional academic pathways.
- Stronger community ties reinforced the bank’s reputation as a responsible and innovative employer.
Outcome
The bank now benefits from a fully established regional technology centre, staffed by skilled technologists trained to its specific requirements. Beyond meeting immediate workforce needs, the programme created a scalable model for building technology capability while driving social impact and regional growth.
