Digital Futures is delighted by the government’s commitment to skills and breaking down barriers to opportunity, delivered in the King’s Speech. This commitment is in incredible alignment with the Digital Futures mission and it is clear that investment in skills and the creation of opportunity will be critical to economic progress and societal change in the UK.
Bringing skills to the forefront is absolutely essential as we look to close the skills gap and create opportunities. The Skills England Bill is the focal point for the skills initiative from the new government, focused on bringing together employers, unions, educational and training providers and experts with national government to:
- define a single, comprehensive view of current and future national and local skills requirements
- identify the training courses which will be eligible for the expanded Growth and Skills Levy
- ensure that national and regional skills systems are aligned and are meeting skills requirements
The Skills England Bill aims to ensure that the country has a highly skilled workforce that is capable of delivering on the requirements of industry to encourage productivity and economic growth.
Digital Futures is encouraged by the Skills England Bill and by the government’s dedication to developing much-needed skills across the population and it is positive to see policies being developed around the need to ensure that people are equipped with the right skills for success. Digital Futures is committed to continue to work towards removing barriers, creating opportunity and creating sustainable employment for the future of the workforce and we look forward to contributing to the agenda.
